How your age is calculated
Your age is the gap between two calendar dates. The calculator works it out month by month, the same way official forms do, so it always lines up with your legal age:
years = today.year − birth.year months = today.month − birth.month days = today.day − birth.day
if days < 0 → borrow a month (add the days in the previous month) if months < 0 → borrow a year (add 12 months)
Worked example. Born 1 January 2000, measured on 26 June 2026:
Years: 2026 − 200026
Months: June (6) − January (1)5
Days: 26 − 125
Exact age26 years, 5 months, 25 days
Leap years are handled automatically, so a birthday on 29 February and the day counts across February are always correct.
Your age in other units
Sometimes a single big number is more fun — or more useful for a form. The calculator converts the same span into total months, weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds, and estimates milestones like total heartbeats and breaths. The totals are whole counts of completed units, so “9,673 days” means you have lived 9,673 full days.
When is your next birthday?

What is my zodiac sign?
Your Western zodiac sign comes from your birth month and day — for example, anyone born between 22 December and 19 January is a Capricorn. Your Chinese zodiac animal comes from your birth year on a repeating twelve-year cycle (Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig). The year 2000, for instance, is the Year of the Dragon.
Note: the Chinese new year falls in late January or February, so for birthdays in those weeks the animal can belong to the previous year — treat the Chinese sign as a guide.
