How to use the BMI calculator
Choose metric or imperial, enter your height and weight, and read your BMI, your category on the colour scale, and your healthy weight range — all instantly. BMI is the same number worldwide; only the input units differ.
BMI categories for adults
BMI is a screening tool, not a diagnosis. Athletes and very muscular people may have a high BMI without excess fat, so use it alongside other measures and professional advice.
Frequently asked questions
BMI is your weight in kilograms divided by the square of your height in metres (kg/m²). In imperial units it is weight in pounds divided by height in inches squared, multiplied by 703. This calculator does the conversion for you whichever units you use.
